I recently covered two events straddling the arrival the New Year for the Monterey Herald. The first was the First Night Monterey New Year Eve celebration.

There is always interesting the mix of anticipation, celebration and reflection that comes with the coming of a new year.

There was also a lot of banging of drums as Shinsho Mugen Daiko drummers hammered away in the final sunlight of 2017.

With tight deadlines I had to shoot the beginning and then transmit my images in early.
The next morning I headed to Carmel to photograph runners as they welcomed in 2018 at Rio Grille’s Resolution Run.

The weather was crisp and sunny and the views are amazing along Scenic Road. Here is another shot from the same location with a longer lens.

I am looking forward to seeing what 2018 will bring.
